The Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center proudly offered students the following Penn College Courses during the 2020-2021 school year!

This year, approximately 40 students took advantage of the opportunity to earn Penn College credits. Students in each shop were offered the opportunity to apply for Penn College NOW at the beginning of the school year. All students who had either a B or C average at their high school, depending on the course, were accepted into the program. Students were able to take advantage of the educational and financial benefit of taking college level courses within their program of study, without incurring any out of pocket expenses.

In addition to the college courses offered within their program of study, students were also given the opportunity to take two newly offered general education courses; American Government and General Psychology. A total of 50 course enrollments occurred. The students that took Penn College NOW courses during the 2020-2021 school year at the Seneca Highlands CTC collectively earned $88,050 worth of college credits.

Early Childhood Educator, Kimberly Mooney, offered the General Psychology course to students at the CTC, regardless of what program they were enrolled in. Fifteen students took advantage of the opportunity and were able to collectively earn $26,415 worth of college credits. Networking Instructor, Brent Bryant, also offered American Government as a general education course, in addition to the Introduction to Gaming and Simulation course that he offers within his program of study.

The additional course offerings can help students meet current graduation requirements at their high school, as well as provide them with the opportunity to earn college credits in a familiar environment. The Seneca Highlands CTC takes pride in preparing students for their next step by continuing to assist students in becoming college and career ready.

We will be assisted in this endeavor by Cabot Oil and Gas who has generously pledged to cover all tuition costs for the upcoming 21/22 school year. This will ensure no costs are incurred by students or their families to take advantage of these college credits.

Cabot Oil and Gas, and JVB Bank have also contributed funds to our students in the form of EITC Grants. Each student that qualifies for this income based grant is able to use the funds to purchase a variety of tools, equipment, and technology for use in the trade area they are studying. Examples of these are:

• Boots/ Shoes

• Uniforms

• Certification Costs

• Technology such as: computers, tablets, and printers.

• Medical equipment such as: stethoscopes, and blood pressure kits

• Welding helmets, gloves, and leathers

During the 20/21 school year Cabot Oil and Gas provided $5,000 and JVB Bank provided $3,000.

These companies have already pledged to contribute for the upcoming 21/22 school year as well. Cabot Oil and Gas will be donating up to $7,500, JVB Bank up to $2,400, and Mountain Energy Services has also provided up to $10,000, for a grand total of $19,900 for our qualifying students.
