Recognizing the value of hands-on environmental education, the Chesapeake Executive Council—which includes the governors of the six Chesapeake Bay states and the mayor of Washington, D.C.—signed a commitment in 2000 to provide a Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience, or MWEE, to every student in the watershed before graduation from high school. In 2010, the Chesapeake Bay Program launched Bay Backpack to support this goal. Please take a look at the resources at the bottom of this page to learn more about the Bay Backpack and MWEE.
Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) are learner-centered experiences that focus on investigations into local environmental issues that lead to informed action and civic engagement. Both teachers and students play important roles in the MWEE by working together in partnership.
JOIN US and representatives from CBF as we learn about the MWEE cycle, how it looks in classrooms of all types (K-12) and experience some hands on environmental science!
Participants will receive a free Water Monitoring Kit for their classroom!
