After LHSI

Office of Student Employment

After my time at LHSI came to an end, I wasn't sure of my next steps for the Fall of 2022. I knew thankfully I had secured an internship for the summer. I started looking through Handshake and found a job posting that grabbed my attention. I applied because why not. An on-campus job means flexible scheduling, decent pay, and getting extra resources from on-campus faculty.

I later received an email about an interview, so I proceeded with the interview process and waited to hear back. In the beginning, I didn't give it much thought, because I thought because of my major; I probably wasn't the best fit.

I definitely doubted myself. One afternoon I received an email that I was being offered the position. I couldn't process the email, I had to re-read it twice.

Training & Development Intern

I can say I came in with an open mind and no experience. I think those are good things about internships, you don't have to know everything because you will learn on-site.

When I began the role, I did a lot of training and learned new skills.

I would say the biggest barrier was adjusting to Handshake. Knowing students around campus would see jobs that I'm reviewing before they get posted; did put a bit of pressure on me. Essentially I got more comfortable with Handshake and would manage anything from 40 to 90 job postings a day, depending on the season. So during recruiting season, our queue would be full constantly.
