I am an ambitious student-athlete who knows that I will not be satisfied or happy until I have given my absolute best with any task I am faced with. My aspiration to go above and beyond has led me to be a part of IUPUI Honors College, the IUPUI cross country and track teams, and various volunteer groups in my hometown. I am currently working on being more confident in my capabilities and not underestimating myself; I have made much progress in these characteristics throughout the past few years and will continue to improve upon my weaker areas through leadership positions both in school and on clubs or teams. Aside from a passion in community involvement, gaining a sense of culture through travel has always been important in my life and I believe that through this I have learned how to be open-minded as well as grateful for the opportunities I have. This feeling of thankfulness has given me a passion to help others less fortunate and is why I plan on becoming a doctor in the future to give others the best I can offer.
I am a dedicated student-athlete and aspiring surgeon who is committed to giving my best in every academic, athletic, and professional pursuit. Competing as a collegiate athlete for all four years has instilled discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of teamwork, and serving as a team captain has allowed me to grow significantly in my communication and leadership abilities. These experiences have strengthened my confidence and reinforced the importance of collaboration and accountability. My academic interests are rooted in science and medicine, and I have worked in multiple research laboratories where I gained experience in both technical and clinical aspects of research. These opportunities have refined my problem-solving skills and confirmed my desire to pursue a career in medicine. In addition to research, my role as a laboratory teaching assistant has further developed my ability to communicate complex material clearly while supporting others’ learning. Gaining cultural perspective through travel continues to be an important part of my personal growth. I studied abroad in Copenhagen for a summer, where exposure to new academic and healthcare perspectives strengthened my open-mindedness and adaptability. As I prepare to pursue a master’s degree abroad in neuroscience before medical school, I am motivated to continue developing a global outlook and to ultimately become a surgeon who combines technical skill, leadership, and compassion to provide the best possible care for patients.
To the left is the journey map I made during my freshman year of college; I have now realized that I did not plan for what was to happen for the duration of my college experience. I was not entirely sure what options were out there and what I was capable of, but I am overjoyed to see the change :)
My senior year journey map is no longer a linear progression, but a culmination of all the things that shape me including future endeavors and goals, past experiences, drives, and balances. I was able to add many experiences that may not have been a part of the original plan and tweak those that were.
