When I was about 12 years old I told my pediatric dentist at the time that I wanted to pursue a career in the field of Dentistry, from there my interest in the career field has only expanded. I've had the amazing opportunity get an internship position while I was in high school. I worked with the dental assistant within the office to check-in patients, conduct routine exams and sterilize the instruments after each visit, I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the office and being able to experience the different procedures and assisting with what the dentist needed. I also attended a career focused school in my freshman and sophomore years of high school and partook in a career focused class that allowed us to experience some aspects of the work done in different healthcare jobs, such as Dentistry. Within the course I was able to learn more about the field of Dentistry, make impressions and clean teeth, which was something that was so fun to me. I recently did a summer internship program within the Dental school and now I have a permanent position within the Oral Health Research building. I am planning on gaining more internship experiences within Dental clinics this year, particularly this summer so that I can continue to gain the clinical experience needed for Dental school.
I plan on attending Dental school and become either a Pediatric or General Dentist. After a few years of having my own established practice and paying off my loans, I want to travel internationally and provide Dental care to families in low SES communities. I would like to provide these services particularly to communities within Africa and South America because these are the communities that have had the most impact on my life.
