Within my LHSI experience I have been given the opportunity to improve on my professionalism skills and lab skills. I've also been given the opportunity to build my professional network by working with Dr. Hernandez-Perez and the other professionals within the lab. Ultimately I have been given an opportunity to work on very significant research, with animals that I had no previous experience with, that could potentially be used further for diabetes research.

I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work within the Oral Health Research Facility in IUSD. I was given this job opportunity after completing IUSD's Dental Summer Undergraduate Research Program. This opportunity has allowed me to not only build my networking skills, but also continue to evolve my interest in the field of Dentistry. Currently the research project that was being conducted has been put on hold due to COVID-19.

This job is another position in which I am able to display my skills. I work with a range of potential students from kindergarten all the way to transfer college students. We put on various events and come up with ideas that allow us to reach all demographics specifically. I am able to show guests around IUPUI and give them stories and details about my experiences within IUPUI's campus and the various opportunities available for students. This role has allowed me to build mt relationships with my peers and has also allowed me to build my sense of community within IUPUI.

I was given the honor of being a peer mentor for the fall 2019 semester. This experience allowed me to build my professional skills and leadership skills. I was tasked to mentor incoming freshman and current IUPUI students through their college journey. My fellow mentors and myself put on group sessions, individual meetings and held various events that provided students with resources ensuring that they had to tools to succeed.

I have been a member in the Pre-Dental Club of IUPUI since my freshman year. This membership has allowed me to meet with current IUSD students and ask questions about their experiences, volunteer at places such as the Ronald McDonald house and meet with Dentists and Dental schools to talk about some of the things that they are looking for in an applicants. Being given these opportunities has allowed me to better prepare myself for the things that I may experience when applying to Dental school that I may not have thought of before. I have greatly benefited from this club and I would recommend any pre-dental students to join.

I worked as an intern during my senior year in highschool at Brownsburg Dental Professionals. This job allowed me to work with the dental assistant in the office and learn more about the dental tools and equipment used when doing procedures. I was able to learn if I really did like working in a dental office and if working with patients was really what I enjoyed. I was tasked with cleaning out the instruments after each patient was seen, while also cleaning the exam rooms. At the end of the day I cleaned out the suction machines and I made sure that the instruments were sterilized and ready for the next day. Sometimes I was responsible for imputing patient data. This opportunity allowed me to gain skills on how to work with professionals for the first time, while also learning how to sterilize the dental equipment.
