This is a brief overview of some of my academic work that I’m especially proud of. Each project reflects topics I care about and some have helped shape my understanding of the healthcare field, while also allowing me to grow as a student and future professional.
This Strategic Planning Working Draft outlines Riley Children’s Hospital’s five-year plan to expand access, improve care, and maintain its leadership in pediatric healthcare across Indiana. Key priorities include increasing outpatient centers and telehealth services, investing in research and technology, enhancing family-centered care, and addressing social determinants of health through community partnerships. The plan responds to challenges such as workforce shortages, financial pressures, and rising consumer expectations. Riley aims to deliver more personalized, accessible, and innovative care while staying financially and operationally sustainable in a competitive healthcare environment.
For this assignment, I was asked to analyze and describe a visual advertisement and then summarize its overall message and impact. I chose a Pantene ad featuring Selena Gomez from Cosmopolitan magazine. The ad highlights Pantene’s anti-breakage shampoo and promotes the idea that “Strong is Beautiful.” In my analysis, I described how the ad uses powerful visuals like Selena’s shiny, voluminous hair, bright colors, and confident body language to appeal to women who want healthier, stronger hair. I also discussed how Pantene strategically chose Selena Gomez to connect with their target audience and used emotional appeal to promote confidence and beauty. The ad’s main goal is to attract women who want to improve their hair and feel more confident, and it does so by associating strong hair with empowerment and self-love.
For my Pecha Kucha assignment, I focused on racial discrimination in healthcare, specifically how it affects black communities. I talked about the history of medical mistreatment like the Tuskegee Study and Henrietta Lacks and how that history still impacts trust and health outcomes today. The presentation helped me raise awareness and reflect on why equity in healthcare is so important, especially in the field I want to go into.
In Health Care Legal Aspects, we explored how the law applies to healthcare professionals, organizations, and patients. We learned about key legal concepts such as HIPAA and patient confidentiality, torts, provider liability, negligent credentialing, and due process in disciplinary actions. We studied real-world and hypothetical legal cases to better understand how legal violations can lead to lawsuits and how healthcare institutions can protect themselves through compliance and proper procedures. This course helped me understand the importance of ethical, legal, and professional standards in healthcare management.
