Tutoring
In my academic journey, I have had the opportunity to tutor in various subjects, including Cost Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting II, and Technology & Business Analysis. These experiences have not only allowed me to deepen my understanding of accounting principles but also equipped me to assist students effectively with their coursework and collaborate with peers to enhance my comprehension of complex topics.
Through this tutoring role, I have developed critical hard skills, such as expertise in accounting principles and analytical techniques, alongside essential soft skills, including effective communication, adaptability, and problem-solving. I have utilized diverse teaching methods to present material in a relatable manner, refining my ability to convey complex concepts clearly and engage effectively with varied audiences.
These experiences have significantly prepared me for my future career by enhancing my technical proficiency and honing my collaborative abilities. These skills will be invaluable in roles that demand technical expertise, teamwork, and client interaction. Furthermore, my capacity to teach and explain concepts will contribute to my effectiveness as a mentor and leader, in professional settings and personal pursuits.
Goal University
From September 2021 to May 2022, I participated in the GOAL University program at IUPUI, where I had the opportunity to lead initiatives focused on promoting healthy lifestyle choices through nutrition and exercise. As a team lead during the spring semester, I oversaw activities and ensured objectives were met efficiently.
Our team engaged with elementary students in the Indianapolis area, primarily through after-school programs organized by the YMCA. We divided the students into two groups: one focused on educational activities about healthy habits, such as the MyPlate dietary guidelines, and the other participated in physical activities reinforcing those lessons.
This experience allowed me to develop critical hard skills, including program planning and educational instruction. I learned to design and implement effective lesson plans tailored to various learning styles. Additionally, I honed essential soft skills such as leadership, team management, and communication. Leading the team and interacting with young students enhanced my ability to motivate others, manage group dynamics, and convey information clearly and engagingly.
The skills I gained from this experience will be invaluable in my future career. My leadership and management abilities will serve me well in roles requiring project oversight or team coordination. My background in educational instruction will be advantageous for roles focused on training and mentoring. My enhanced communication skills will enable me to interact effectively with diverse groups, making me adaptable and effective in both professional and personal contexts.
ALD/PES
Since February 2022, I have been a member of Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) and Phi Eta Sigma (PES), prestigious national honor societies that showcase exceptional academic achievements during the first year of college. Both organizations prioritize academic excellence, requiring members to maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher in their first semester.
I have developed several essential hard and soft skills. My hard skills include advanced time management and organizational abilities, as balancing a high GPA with extracurricular activities necessitates effective planning and prioritization. My soft skills in networking, communication, and goal-setting have been strengthened. Engaging with fellow members has provided valuable opportunities to build professional connections, exchange ideas, and gain insights from peers who share a commitment to academic and personal growth.
