I support faculty, staff, and students in promoting reflective practice and folio-thinking in Honors & Scholars and beyond.
In order to support our Honors & Scholars (H&S) students, we are providing scaffolded ePortfolio resources for students so they can practice folio-thinking, reflection and ultimately, create a portfolio that allows students to tell their H&S story while a student at Ohio State.
Since we have recently finalized the structure and requirements of a qualifying H&S portfolio, we are now developing a rubric to be used when providing feedback students and ultimately, when assessing the final H&S portfolios. Considering we may have as many as 1,000 students submitting a portfolio annually, we need to develop a rubric that is straight-forward and easy to use while also provides directed feedback to students. Thus, we will be piloting a single-column rubric.
RUBRIC DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND
In 2022, Ohio State adopted a new General Education curriculum, which incorporates ePortfolio across students' learning journeys. In order to support students' reflective practice and folio-thinking, the Honors and Scholars (H&S) program is (re)launching a new program to enhance students' ePortfolio activity. We recently established a structure for the final H&S portfolio and are now working to create a rubric to assess students' work. With such a large student population, we want to use a rubric that will allow us to go through high volume of submissions while also giving constructive feedback. We are developing a single-point rubric, which we hope will allow us to achieve these goals.
We are gathering input from staff and faculty to inform the structure and content of the final rubric.
We are piloting the rubric with a small group of students this semester and gathering feedback.
We are looking for suggestions from faculty, staff and students as we build out these rubrics and start to use them for students to self-assess their work and for us to develop our assessment plan. We value our AAEEBL community for guidance with their collective expertise and years of experience to inform our rubric development.
Trying it out! We are gathering input from practitioners, faculty, staff, and students about how the rubric may be used in practice.
