The skills I am using so far include working independently, time-management, collaboration, networking, and communication. Whenever I am given tasks in the office, such as recording attendance, I have learned and practiced accessing our system. Due to these actions, I have begun to research on my own when confirming anonymous guests etc. This further shows my independence and dedication to perform tasks at hand.
While I may not have all the answers, I know I can ask my day-to-day supervisor for assistance with any task, this also shows my growth in communication and collaboration skills.
Skills I would like to work on include, my internship goals, specifically, collaboration, and networking. Since the ECHO Center operates via Zoom meetings, I intend to utilize my camera more during our meetings, ask questions, and overall become more engaged. This way I can ask questions more freely while simultaneously working on my goals.
Since the fall semester, I feel like I've grown substantially more confident in all of these skills. I am still struggling with my personal barriers, such as anxiety, but I feel like exposure therapy in these positions will help me overcome this barrier.
One way this internship has helped me gain a deeper understanding in my coursework and major is by exposing me to health promotion related conversations. Related plans of action, to care for the patients or clients, is discussed through the ECHO case presentations. I am currently enrolled in a Health Promotion and Disease Prevention course, and I can see how the related coursework of recognizing patterns and promoting health promotion is displayed through my internship.
I am glad to say I have been included in real collaborative conversations with health providers. This sort of format in an ECHO session will allow me to network with current Physician Assistants and possibly shadow their work.
