First goal
My first goal I had was that every day I will strengthen my communication, networking, and technical skills by being able to independently work on intern tasks for ECHOs. By May 2024, I can showcase my skills on my resume proving my success. This goal will prepare me for the future by allowing me to use the skills obtained to execute and perform any task at hand, efficiently. I am currently strengthening my transferable skills and will apply them to new workloads with future employers. Tasks that will help me reach my goal: ECHO Session preparation, ECHO Session follow-ups, and Participation Analysis.
Over the course of the year, I feel as if I have strengthened my communication, networking, and technical skills. As well as the ability to work independently on tasks. In August 2023, while I was starting out during my internship, I usually did not express any further communication, unless it was clarifying questions for any given task, and I did not participate in any networking opportunities quite yet.
As I've progressed, I can confidently say that ECHO session preparation, joining given sessions, such as the HIV ECHO, and conducting participation analysis has opened a gateway for me to exemplify the above skills.
My next line of action will be to continue to hone in on my networking skills and communication in order to obtain a position, over the summer, working in a hospital setting.
I need to be exposed to this setting more because I wish to seek my future career in the hospital setting and I am extremely confident for this position to be an excellent starting point.
Second goal
My second goal was that every two weeks, I will generate an email for my team members to review regarding case outreach opportunities. I will reach out to 3 potential providers/health professionals and receive feedback on my choices during this time frame. By May 2024 I will be able to decipher between applicable case participants. This goal fits into my career journey because I need to expose myself to leadership roles and more independent tasks because I know I will be faced with these sorts of tasks as a future Physician Assistant. I know I can always ask for help down the road, but some tasks I should be knowledgeable about to handle them on my own to reduce the need for my employer’s attention being taken away from their important tasks. I feel like this learning goal will help me personally and the flow for my future career path. Tasks that will help me reach my goal: Case outreach, Networking with ECHO contacts, and Researching potential participant group
Whenever case-outreach was one of my main tasks at the ECHO Center, many draft emails were supplied to my supervisor for feedback. This was necessary before being able to send an email on my own without more verification. I was provided with examples and taught how to send a professional email to potential attendees in our upcoming ECHO session. I would say my main fault was my conciseness. Later on in the year, I would find myself sending emails to potential case presenters voluntarily or when I was asked to assist for another time. I did not have to consult, as much, with my supervisor for advice. Of course, if I had any questions before sending the email, I was able to get clarification but the level of trust she had for me at this point had grown and I could appropriately conduct this task independently.
With this experience and newfound discernment for potential candidates, I intend to use these skills for properly contacting individuals, on a professional level, and reach employers when searching for a place to jump start my career. I am extremely confident that this current goal will expand and lead to growth for my future career as a Physician Assistant.
Third goal
Mt third goal was that every week, I will collaborate and provide my insights to my team. Ensuring that I know what is expected of me given the tasks at hand. By May 2024, I will be able to showcase my work for my end of the year project. This goal will help prepare me for the future, especially since I plan to become a Physician’s assistant, by allowing my opinion to be heard and become less nervous to speak up about any topic. Communication and collaboration is an important aspect in the healthcare setting, and I feel like this will help me grow and learn more down the road. As well as, curve some anxiety I may have. Tasks that will help me reach my goal: Joining ECHO sessions, Attending and participating in ECHO team meetings, and Case outreach
Since the beginning of my internship, me and my supervisor scheduled weekly check-in meetings in order to fulfill this collaboration goal. During our meetings, I could share my successes and/or challenges with certain projects I was tasked with for the week, and we were able to problem solve during this time. Towards the middle of year, and as I became more comfortable, I would occasionally join debrief meetings regarding previous ECHO sessions. During this meeting, the program management specialist would request input and insights from the team about many session components.
I would offer my perspectives and highlight information that may have stuck with me. As I began to work with the Indiana Communities Advancing Recovery Efforts program, or IN CAREs program, mastering and building on this goal has made me moderately confident to succeed in this program as well. During our most recent meeting, it feels natural to join our meetings, debrief periods, and of course the ECHO Session itself.
In the near future, I intend to display my collaborating skills among my colleagues and employers by providing my perspective of the company or any given time there should be a meeting. This will hopefully aid in the flow of my workplace and become one of my mastered interpersonal skills as I pursue my career as a Physican Assistant.
My current career goals are to become a Physician's Assistant and work in the primary care setting. I have these goals because I strive to have my own patients, treat, and promote healthy lifestyles and regimens for them. Having this ability to assess and treat patients will be most rewarding and I am very sure of this decision.
