About Me

Education

I am currently in my third year at IUPUI pursuing a degree in psychology with a minor in ethics on the pre-med track. Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior.

As a psychology major, my coursework is centered around understanding human behavior and what effects it alongside gaining tools to interpret and understand research regarding human behavior.

I have chosen to pursue this because I have always had a love for understanding human behavior and human interaction. The psychology field is also extremely versatile so I feel that in this path, I can continuously learn and grow throughout the years.

Collaborator

As a team member, I bring a collaborative spirit and a ready to learn attitude to every setting I am. I value respect, innovation, creation, and effective communication and these are all things I try to exemplify in everyday life. I strive to expand on these strengths and pick up new ones as I continue to work with new people and become involved in new co-curricular experiences.

My previous experiences have shown me how crucial it is to be able to work as a team to achieve a common goal bigger than the team itself. They have allowed me to become skilled at fostering a positive environment with a team setting as well as using other’s strengths to aid in a positive outcome.

Passions & Interests

I am driven by my desire to serve others. A few things I enjoy doing in my spare time include: volunteering, mentoring, reading, and exploring. According to my Clifton Strengths assessment I have a curious mind and love collecting new information this love developed early as a kid as I found joy in doing research reports and reading about things that I am interested in. I utilize this strength in exploration of different research topics, pursuit of self development and more. Another strength that Gallup identified was my empathy which drives my love for volunteering as I am able to empathize with the recipients of that service and understand the importance of the work I do.

Crisis Text Line

As a volunteer crisis counselor, I spend varying amounts of hours weekly helping texters in a state of crisis, decompress. How I help them resolve their crisis' look different depending on their unique situation. In this position, I have worked with varying issues from relocation to suicidal thoughts. This experience has allowed me to grow as a person and gain more empathy for situations that would otherwise be hard to understand.

Volunteer Experiences

Jagathon

Throughout my time at IUPUI, I have gotten involved with Jagathon, an organization that fundraises money for Herman B Wells Research Center to aid in healthcare for children at Riley Hospital. Through this organization I am able to volunteer both within the IUPUI community for events such as commencement and outside of the IUPUI community with organizations such as Momentum Indy. I am currently the Co-Director of Campus Partnerships for this organization where I work with creating and nurturing monetary partnerships as well as non-monteary partnerships to create a stronger sense of community at IUPUI.

Through this experience, I have learned about negogiation and how to present in a business meeting. I have also gained more professional writing skills and I have learned how to plan events, outreach to organizations within the community, and delegate tasks.

Overdose Lifeline

As a volunteer for overdose lifeline, I spend my time packing Narcan and Naloxone kits that are distributed across the state of Indiana to help save the lives of those that overdose. While I started this randomly due to my love of volunteering, as time goes on, I see how many places receive our kits and how life changing they are. This is such a rewarding experience and I am so glad I found out about this opportunity.

Work Experience

Institute for Engaged Learning

My first year at IUPUI I was able to start working as a program assistant for the Institute for Engaged Learning at IUPUI. In this position, I have gained experience in recruitment of scholars, data entry, and promoting co-curricular experiences. This experience is one of the most valuable experiences I have had since being in college. I have had the opportunity to sit in multiple student lunches for the interview process of various positions at IUPUI, as well as provide candidates with tours of the university. This office in IUPUI also has amazing faculty who are truly invested in the success of students.

Peer Mentor

I am a goal-oriented person which fuels my ambition and strong work ethic. I also have a love for service and for people. I am able to take these strengths and passions and apply them to other aspects of life and activities that I enjoy doing such as my work as a peer mentor for first year students. Through OTEAM, I have been able to mentor for my second year now and I love being able to help students who were once in my same shoes, get more comfortable with the campus and drastic changes that come with being a young adult in college.

Student Organizations

As the Associate Executive Director of Administration (AED), for IUPUI's Regatta, I have the opportunity to grow and learn more about what it takes to plan a large community event. This event is a race on the canal in downtown Indianapolis that also has a festival area in military park. As AED of Admin, I work to secure internal as well as external sponsorships. This opportunity has helped me further my professional written communication skills, as well as providing me with more leadership skills as I head a team of multiple people.

As the Vice President of Administration for SAPB, I help the team put on events through providing supplies necessary and tracking the various budgets. This student organization has been tasked with putting on student activities for the university. Being apart of it allows me to help create a stronger sense of community on campus and forces me to continue to develop my organization skills.
