Internship Goals
Goal #1:
Relate and apply knowledge gained from the classroom and other co-curricular experiences to the internship and vice versa.
I will did this through interviewing, qualitative analysis, and coding. A lot of my work has involved coding and analyzing interviews the skills gained from this are skills that I can eventually use in courses such as statistics, or future psychology courses. By placing importance on learning how to take what I am learning in my site and apply it to my courses, I am providing myself with a stronger foundation to do it naturally in the future and I am enriching my learning experience. This goal will allow for me to become a more well-rounded, introspective student and professional.
Goal #2:
Demonstrate an understanding of qualitative scientific analysis.
I did this through use of excel spreadsheets in various projects, working with Facilitator surveys, and coding interviews. As a student, having an understanding of this and how to do it and how to use it will help me throughout my time in undergrad when I'm in courses that we use it and when I am trying to do things such as research. My goal for 2023 is to become a part of one of IUPUI's research programs and then apply for at least 5 research conferences. I can only succeed in these ventures if I can use and understand qualitative analysis. As a psychiatrist, I will need to be able to keep up on the latest literature regarding medicine, various assessments, and other things relating to that field. Understanding and using qualitative analysis is a skill that will need to be built upon before I eventually have to use it for my future career.
Goal #3:
Gain diverse experience with research both relating to adolescent health and topics outside of that scope.
I did this through PrEP interviews, possibly sitting in meetings pertaining to varied research and analysis of various projects. This is such a vital skill to have as I hope to eventually conduct my own research. So by getting experience and learning the process in my internship, it will set me up for success when I decide to start to doing research. This is also extremely important as medical schools like to see that their applicants have research experience.
