While CloudEndure Disaster Recovery (CEDR) is no longer the recommended solution for disaster recovery on AWS,Â
CEDR was an AWS service that facilitated disaster recovery for on-premises and cloud-based workloads. It allowed you to:
Replicate data: Continuously replicate data from your source environment (on-premises or another cloud) to a recovery environment in the AWS cloud.
Test failovers: Perform test failovers to your recovery environment to ensure your disaster recovery plan is functional.
Failover and recovery: In the event of a disaster, you could failover your workloads to the replicated environment in AWS, minimizing downtime and data loss.
Why was it replaced?
In late 2021, AWS launched a new service called AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (DRS) specifically designed for disaster recovery on AWS. DRS offers several advantages over CEDR, including:
Direct integration with AWS: DRS is a native AWS service, offering tighter integration with other AWS services and a more streamlined user experience within the AWS Management Console.
Enhanced functionalities: DRS provides additional features not available in CEDR, such as support for more data sources and disaster recovery orchestration tools.
Simplified management: DRS aims to simplify disaster recovery management compared to CEDR.
