The Istituto Tecnico – Settore Tecnologico – “Giulio Cesare Falco” is a public upper secondary school located in Capua and Grazzanise, in the province of Caserta, only 40 km from Naples, on the north-eastern edge of the Campanian plain.
The main building of the school is just 700 metres from the beautiful and well-preserved Renaissance bastions that still protect Capua city centre, not far from the Roman bridge that carries the Via Appia across the river Volturno and some famous medieval landmarks, such as the Cathedral, dating back to the 9th century A.D., with its characteristic open courtyard, and the Norman castle, also called Castrum Lapidum (Stone Castle). The school lies in an area rich in historical sites, such as the Royal Palace of Caserta (Unesco World Heritage Site) and the Roman Amphitheatre of ancient Capua, which is second only to the Coliseum in size.
Founded in 1972, the Istituto Tecnico Giulio Cesare Falco is named after the Capua native Giulio Cesare Falco, a military engineer that served emperor Charles V in the 16th century, took part in the suppression of the revolt of Ghent in 1539 and left an endowment for the Monastery of St Mary of Montevergine in 1548.
The school has got two locations: the main building is in Capua, the satellite branch is in Grazzanise. The Istituto Tecnico Giulio Cesare Falco has got about 900 students aged between 14 and 19 and 145 teachers. The school staff includes thirteen school janitors, an executive secretary, seven clerks and six technicians. The school is equipped with a conference hall, a teachers’ room, a meeting room, a library, a Science lab, an aeronautical lab, a mechanics/mechatronics lab, an ICT lab, an electronics lab, a gym, a football field, a volleyball court, a basketball court, a 100m three-lane running track and 38 classrooms, each of which has got its own interactive whiteboard.
The school offers both a wide theoretical education in core subjects such as Italian, History, English, Law, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Education, and a technical specialisation in the following fields: Mechanics/Mechatronics; Transport & Logistics (Aeronautics); Electronics & Electrical Engineering; ICT/Computer Science; Fashion system.
The Istituto Tecnico “G. C. Falco” celebrates diversity, promotes the development of global citizenship and fosters holistic learning in a safe, supporting environment. As a member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network the school is committed to reinforcing the humanistic, ethical, cultural and international dimensions of education.
One of our goals is educational excellence for all of our students. We boast remarkable achievements in mechanics, aeronautics and electronics. We won first place in the National Aeronautical Engineering Competition for Italian schools that was held in 2017 and on 12th and 13th October 2018 we won first place at the 2018 GISPA – International Race for Aeronautical Design Schools in the Gold and Silver Class categories (Glider design).
We also have partnerships with the local job office and some local companies where our students do an apprenticeship.
The I.T. Giulio Cesare Falco is a Registered Trinity College (TCL) Exam Centre, an ECDL test centre and one of the CISCO academies. The school runs a sport club, publishes a school newspaper (“La Voce del Falco”) featuring articles written by the students and provides counselling services to students in cooperation with the Social Services office of the municipality.
