A Week That Changed My Perspective
The Erasmus+ project is a European Union program that supports international mobility experiences, also for high school students. However, for me, it was much more than that. It was an experience I will always remember, and I am very happy that I could share it with my classmates.
It was a week that helped me open my mind to new horizons, discovering a new place in all its aspects. Staying with a host family helped me understand local habits and cultural differences even more. These differences were not a problem for me; instead, they made the experience more interesting. In fact, the Dutch families and students were always kind, helpful, and open-minded.
The school activities were interesting and allowed us to learn important concepts without being too difficult or heavy. The main topic was environmental sustainability, which was present in most of the activities we did. We understood how important this concept is in the Netherlands by visiting cities and buildings that promote recycling and try to reduce waste.
However, it was not only about this. We also saw how people are willing to reduce pollution through simple daily actions, such as using public transport or bicycles instead of cars when it is not necessary, and using reusable water bottles instead of plastic ones.
Besides learning new things, I had the opportunity to improve my language and communication skills by talking with local people. I also learned some basic words in a new language, Dutch, because they were happy to teach us simple terms from their native language.
Personally, I found this experience very enriching in every way. It helped me become more independent, which is very important for personal growth.
In conclusion, I would like to thank all the people who made this intercultural exchange possible. I strongly recommend this experience to all students who are curious, want to discover something new, and see the world from a different perspective.
