Research can be challenging if you don't have trustable resources but without research a delegate can not fully understand the issue or the countries stance. A few reliable sources are:
CIA World Fact book (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/)
United Nations Bibliographic Information System - http://unbisnet.un.org
UN Research Guides & Resources - http://research.un.org/
UN Global Issues - http://www.un.org/en/globalissues/
Below is a template for structuring your country research. This will help you structure your research and know what to look at.
To get a greater depth of the issue at hand you should always write a Policy Statement. This will allow you to have greater knowledge on the issue itself and your country's stance on it. The statement will also help you with your speech writing and with facts for your speeches on the day of the conference. A policy statement should not be long.
The Policy statement structure is a little like this:
Paragraph 1: define unknown terms, explain the topic and talk about the issue at hand from the world's perspective
Paragraph 2: Talk about what has been done globally and by the UN
Paragraph 3: Talk about your country's stance on the issue and what your country has done to rectify it
Paragraph 4: Talk about possible solutions to the issue (this will help you when you write your resolution).
Below is an example of a policy statement.
