Course Description
Embark on a breathtaking adventure through the majestic Grossglockner region of the Austrian Alps, hiking along picturesque trails and staying in traditional alpine huts over five incredible nights. The journey begins with an ascent to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe visitor center, followed by daily treks that offer stunning views, challenging routes, and a chance to connect with nature. Each day will include hikes of varying difficulty, with distances ranging from 5 km to 12.5 km and elevation changes that will test endurance and determination..
What you need to know:
Sleeping arrangements will be in shared dormitory-style rooms within alpine huts, equipped with basic amenities such as common toilets and lavatories. Many huts offer hot showers for an additional fee (approximately €5 per person), though availability may be limited during water shortages. Charging mobile phones or cameras may not always be possible, and internet access is minimal or unavailable in the mountains.
Weather conditions in the mountains are highly unpredictable, requiring participants to pack appropriate clothing and gear. Each student will need their own trekking pack, sturdy hiking boots, and a light sleeping bag or liner. A detailed packing list will be provided to ensure students are prepared for this challenging experience.
Physical Requirements
No special technical skills are required to participate in this trek, but students must be in excellent physical condition to handle the demands of high-altitude hiking and long distances. Students are encouraged to engage in regular aerobic exercise in preparation for the trip. This will help ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone.
