Opening Speeches
Each delegation has an Ambassador and they need to create a speech for the opening ceremony. This speech should display the country’s ambition to find solutions and wish “good luck” to the other delegations. Note you can make your speech more authentic, by adding a quote from a famous person from the country. This speech should be around 1 minute.
Since 1 minute passes by very quick, we recommend this structure to build your speech:
Hook (Quote, Short story, Statistic, Rhetoric question, etc…)
i.e. : (As India) Back in the 1940s, Mahatma Gandhi, human rights advocate once said: “A nation’s greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members.” Yet, in 80 years, ethnic minorities have never been so oppressed.
Point (State your country’s policy/beliefs on the subject(s))
i.e.: (As South Korea) “The Republic of Korea believes that education is a human right, and that all people should have access to education. Education is a pathway out of poverty for millions in developing countries, like Korea was just a few decades ago. Education is the driver of change and development in this world, and education is critical for the human race to continue to thrive and grow.”
Call to Action (Calling the other delegations to cooperate to create long lasting solutions)
I.e.: (As South Korea) “To provide universal access to education, Korea proposes the creation of an international fund called ‘Education For All’ that will support 3 programs in developing countries: building more schools, training new teachers, and preventing girls from dropping out of school. We call upon the international community to create and donate to this fund, so we can guarantee education as a right globally.”
