Asalamu Alaikum!

ISGR is a full-time Islamic School providing preschool through fifth grade levels to the Muslim community in the Grand Rapids metro and surrounding areas. We plan to add a grade level every year, InshAllah, pending student enrollment and availability of resources, until 5th grade.

Staff

Principal Sr. Halima Ismail

Sister Halima Ismail is a Michigan State college of Education graduate who has a master's in teaching English to speakers of other languages and a Education Specialist degree from GVSU.  She completed all Eastern Michigan's doctoral program coursework. I have taught second and third grade and have been an assistant principal in Grand Rapids Public Schools for nine years. I am hopeful we will meet soon and I look forward to a exciting year as we learn from each other and ensure our youngest scholars grow both academically and socially! 

Sr. Lujane

I have a bachelor degree in Accounting School of Business, University Of Damascus.  Although my background is in accounting, I have a good amount of experience teaching Arabic Language in the Al Huda Islamic School ( pre-k _ 5 th grade ) tutoring and coaching. I also have experience working as an elementary school substitute teacher in the local public schools.

I have a good ability to relate to young students and can teach them Arabic in a way that keeps them interested and gives them a wonderful learning experience.  I have three young boys to whom I have been teaching Arabic at home for the last few years, and I am familiar with a lot of material needed to teach English speaking kids the Arabic language basics.


Imam Kip

Imam Kip Curnutt was born in Columbia Missouri in 1986. His first introduction to Islam was from a grade school friend from Afghanistan. This friendship had a lasting impact on Kip that ultimately led to him accepting Islam many years later at the age of 24. After accepting Islam Imam Kip dedicated himself to learning and teaching Islam. He studied Arabic and Islamic studies from Cambridge Islamic College and Qasid Institute in Amman Jordan as well as traditional learning in a variety of Islamic subjects from scholars in the US, Jordan, and Egypt. He served as the Imam of the Islamic Center of Morgantown in Morgantown, Before relocating to Grand Rapids with his wife and two children to join Masjid-At-Tawheed. 

Sr. Lilah

Head Classroom Teacher:  Sister Lilah earned her master's degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Connecticut.  As a certified teacher, Sister Lilah has taught in both public and private Islamic schools from Massachusetts and Connecticut to New Mexico.    

The Facility

Take a tour of the facility! The 12,000 square feet school building is comprised of 15 classrooms, a multipurpose hall, play areas, and a staff lounge. There is enough space for the school's future growth to accommodate more classes. School building and grounds are on 2+ acres.
