Service Learning & Sustainability - Fundraising & Awareness Fair

On November 23, ISKL will host our Community Service Fundraising Fair, bringing together our community to support our dedicated Community Service Partners. The fair will take place from 9:30 am to 12:15 pm at the Middle School Deck.

Community service at ISKL is rooted in our commitment to empathy, care, and ethical impact. This event provides a platform for our partners to share their missions and raise essential support for charitable causes.

Children's Future Education Centre (CFEC)

The Children’s Future Education Centre (CFEC) supports children dedicated to learning, regardless of race or religion. To ensure safe access to education, CFEC provides food, shelter, guidance, and counseling for students from under-resourced backgrounds. The boarding facility currently accommodates up to 40 children, offering a secure environment focused on personal growth and academic development.

Facility improvement plans are underway to repair the classrooms and school hall. To ensure a safe, functional, and supportive learning environment for students, the facility requires classroom repairs and the installation of space partitions.

The estimated budget required to complete these essential repairs and facility updates is RM5,000. Continued community support helps ensure learning spaces remain safe, practical, and well-equipped for all students.

The Chin Women’s Organization (CWO) Learning Centre

The Chin Women's Organization (CWO) Learning Centre provides essential primary education to 93 Chin refugee children aged 4 to 15. While registered under UNHCR Malaysia, the centre operates with limited external funding and relies on sustainable community support to maintain daily operations.

To keep the school open, CWO requires approximately RM6,357 per month to cover fixed operational costs, including RM3,417 for facility rent, RM1,500 for utilities, and RM1,440 for student lunches.

Chin refugee mothers support the centre through batik handcraft sales; however, this revenue is primarily reinvested into raw materials and artisan wages. Consequently, CWO relies on additional institutional and individual contributions—both monetary and in-kind—to sustain its educational mission and ensure safe, continuous learning for its students.

Dignity for Children Foundation

Dignity for Children Foundation is a non-governmental organization dedicated to providing holistic care and education to children from underserved urban communities in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The learning center currently serves more than 2,300 students—representing over 25 nationalities—ranging from 2 to 19 years old.

The organization delivers high-quality education and care in a safe environment from early childhood through secondary school (Form 5). The curriculum incorporates the Montessori approach for early childhood and primary levels, followed by the Cambridge IGCSE program for secondary students. Alongside academic instruction, Dignity integrates practical vocational training through its Transformational Enterprise program, equipping students with essential skills and knowledge to build self-reliant futures.

Free Tree Society

Free Tree Society (FTS) is an environmental non-profit organization based in Kuala Lumpur dedicated to urban greening, biodiversity protection, and climate action education. Founded in 2012, FTS grows and gives away free plants to the public, schools, and community groups to encourage rewilding and suburban greening. Alongside plant giveaways, they host interactive workshops on composting, rainwater harvesting, organic gardening, and sustainable living to empower individuals to make an ethical impact on the environment.

Free Tree Society's school outreach program, FTS On-The-Go, now features a nursery space at their headquarters to care for plant stock used in school greening workshops.

With rising temperatures and a growing number of plants, manual watering has become challenging—especially on weekends and school visit days when staff is offsite. They are seeking donations to install an automated irrigation system to keep their nursery thriving.

Fugee School

At Fugee, the team is committed to supporting refugee children and youth through quality education and holistic development services offered via the Fugee School and Fugee HiEd programs.

As these initiatives grow, both programs are expanding to reach more students and widen their positive impact. Sustainable funding is required to maintain educational standards and extend resources to additional learners. Through community support and shared resources, Fugee continues working to ensure every refugee child and youth has access to learning opportunities.

Greater Action

The Greater Action Centre supports over 250 Afghan refugee families in Bandar Baru Ampang, Malaysia. It provides a safe environment where refugee women gain practical skills in baking, Middle Eastern cuisine, and upcycled tailoring. These initiative-based programs create pathways to sustainable livelihoods, independence, and personal growth.

Alongside vocational training, the centre offers English language classes, educational activities, and community gatherings. It serves as a meaningful hub where families find connection, encouragement, and practical support.

To continue operating, the centre requires RM3,500 per month to cover rent and basic operating expenses. Monthly financial support is essential to maintain these learning spaces and community services.

Hokmah Learning Centre

The Hokmah Learning Centre is a refugee education center in Malaysia that provides basic education, literacy, and developmental support for refugee children who lack access to formal local schooling.

Hokmah School currently operates on a monthly tuition fee of 100 ringgit. However, the tuition fees collected from students alone are insufficient to cover the school’s rental expenses and the salaries of three refugee teachers. Furthermore, some students come from families where parents are unable to work due to illness, making it difficult for them to pay even this minimal fee.

Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK)

Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting homeless and urban poor communities by providing meals, essential supplies, and pathways toward improved well-being.

To sustain and expand this work, KSK is seeking both monetary and non-monetary support for its core initiatives, including daily soup kitchen operations, food bank distributions, and community outreach.

The Lost Food Project (TLFP)

The Lost Food Project (TLFP) is a Malaysian non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing surplus, nutritious food that would otherwise go to landfills and distributing it to vulnerable communities. Since its founding in 2016, TLFP has worked directly with supermarkets, manufacturers, and wholesalers to prevent food waste and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, simultaneously addressing food insecurity across urban centers.

Financial support helps cover essential operational costs—including collecting, sorting, storing, and distributing surplus food, as well as community outreach. As rescue volumes grow, these funds ensure quality surplus food is safely diverted from landfills to support families facing food insecurity.

Malaysian Social Research Institute (MSRI)

With over 500 students aged 5 to 18 years old in early childhood, primary, and secondary education, we provide access to education for refugee children and youth from the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia. Students are taught four core subjects and have limited access to extracurricular activities. MSRI wishes to enhance the students’ learning opportunities. All funds received will go towards sustaining our education program. Non-monetary supplies will be used to support families in dire need of food and education supplies.

Malaysian Rare Disorders Society (MRDS)

MRDS advocates for and supports individuals and families affected by rare disorders. In Malaysia, a rare disease is defined as a medical condition affecting fewer than 1 in 4,000 births, often originating from genetic factors. Examples include Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bones disease), Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Cri Du Chat, Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, and Treacher Collins Syndrome.

Their mission centers on promoting awareness, providing resources, and building an empathetic community where every family receives care, support, and understanding. Together, they work to improve care pathways and foster inclusivity for all affected individuals.

National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM)

The National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) is the first chartered cancer charity in Malaysia, dedicated to providing education, care, and support services to people affected by cancer. NCSM is funded by public donations. NCSM has a transit home for child and adult patients during their cancer treatment at KL General Hospital. Through its community outreach initiatives, the organization works to raise awareness, advocate for early detection, and support families across the nation throughout their treatment journey.

Pads & Paws KL

Pads and Paws KL has rescued and rehomed more than 600 dogs and cats and continues to work tirelessly to end the problem of stray animals by neutering community cats and educating the public on animal welfare and responsible ownership.

At the fair, they will offer merchandise featuring custom cat-related designs, including pencil cases, notebooks, mugs, and small gift items. Funds raised through these sales directly support ongoing medical cases and veterinary care for animals in need.

Alongside fundraising, they accept cat food donations and share information about their community cat feeding programs. This initiative aims to increase awareness of local animal welfare efforts while fostering community engagement and responsible care.

Save School for Refugees seeks monetary and non-monetary support to provide safe, accessible, and quality education to refugee children in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The school serves refugee children who face significant barriers to accessing formal education, including financial hardship that impacts their ability to meet full learning costs. Despite these challenges, the school remains committed to providing opportunities for students to learn, develop essential skills, and build self-reliance for the future.

Tasputra Perkim

Tasputra Perkim provides dedicated support to families of children living with disabilities. The centre supports children affected by conditions such as cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, autism, developmental delay, and genetic disorders, alongside newly emerging diagnoses. Services are tailored for individuals ranging from age 1 through adulthood, accommodating various levels of ability and mobility across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and surrounding areas.

UNHCR

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights, and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people. Driven by persecution, conflict, or violence, millions of families worldwide are forced to flee their homes. UNHCR provides critical on-the-ground emergency aid—including shelter, clean water, medical care, and food—while advocating for long-term solutions and basic human rights.

Funds raised will directly support UNHCR’s global efforts to provide protection and lifesaving assistance, including emergency shelter, clean water, healthcare, and essential relief items.
