Elementary School Service and Sustainability Snapshots

Our Elementary School students are guided by The Melawati Way, a code of behavior that encourages students to “Take Care of Yourself, Take Care of Others, and Take Care of This Place.” The Melawati Way named after our previous ES Campus in Melawati, provides a framework for ES students and teachers to work together in a thoughtful, caring, and polite environment.

We emphasize positive personal character traits like cooperation, courtesy, empathy, integrity, kindness, respect, and responsibility. Our school culture emphasizes a caring and harmonious environment that allows for learning and invites students to problem solve and employ restorative practices when conflicts happen.

ES Initiatives

PR to Grade 4

Service learning and sustainability initiatives are not only limited to our Grade 5 Red Hats. Students from our youngest students in Prep Reception/Junior/Senior and all the other grade levels engage in a variety of activities that benefit the school community or the community at large. Some examples include the Locks of Hope planned and hosted by three Grade 2 students with the guidance of their teachers or annual Earth Week activities that include planting, research and advocacy for sustainable practices framed around the Sustainable Development Goals. Our ES program nurtures the foundation of social awareness around global and environmental issues for ES students with the confidence and initiative to create a positive impact.

Grade 5 Red Hats

The Red Hat program at ISKL is an important initiative that instills leadership qualities, promotes responsibility, and cultivates a sense of community within the school. Every Grade 5 student has the opportunity to serve on the Red Hat Leadership Team and become a social changemaker by choosing a cause to contribute to and advocate for throughout the school year. Students learn responsible global citizenship, collaboration, and group decision-making. Red Hats are role models for other students as they follow the Melawati Way.
