Climate TASKS

Here you will find a variety of tasks that are done throughout the unit, some contain links to the tasks and others just have a small description of what is done based on the topic.

SOI - Atmospheric changes have a wide range of consequences for humans, other living organisms, and the physical environment.

Introduction to Climate & Atmosphere unit.

Students will explore the topic through a number of different medians. They can explore the topic through AUDIO (podcasts), VISUAL (films, episodes, clips, etc.), as well as through WRITTEN text (books, article, journals, websites). The assignment is to learn about the new topic and take notes the assignment has all the links they need and it does not matter what they chose. LINK

Before the Flood

The class watches this National Geographic film. The film gives essentially a more modern and wider picture of the inconvenient truth. We watch about 30min a period have discussion after as well as document a bit of our learning from the film.

Climate vs Weather

To understand Earth's Atmosphere and our understanding of what the difference between Climate and Weather are. This way we are using the correct terminology when writing in the future.

Paris Agreement

COP 21 - The United Nation Climate Change Conference 2015 was a major step forward for the world and many nations as to how we collectively would begin to fight back against climate change. Since then things have changed but doing a little research into the Paris Agreement allows students to review what countries around the world have said they would do to help fight climate change.

Countries Fight Against Climate Change

This is a mini project where students chose a country (usually where they have lived or are from) and research their signing of the Paris Agreement. They are to provide statistics as well as other information on the countries actions to combat climate change. This helps lead into their assessment about how science is being used to impact climate change, renewable energy or a natural disaster.

Students investigate how changing climate can have an effect on the weather and naturals disasters. They then investigation how science is being used to address these changes.Link

Greenhouse Effect Practical

Colour vs. Heat Absorption

Students are given a practical in which they test the temperature change in an artificial atmosphere (bio-chamber). They test this in the simple steps of changing the colour sheets of paper within the bio-chamber. The colours represent different terrain found around the globe; snow, water, soil, vegetation, etc.LINK

Social Media Task

Students will be working on connecting with a different and wider audience. This is to look at how the topic of climate is being discussed throughout the world and how it is being talked about. Throughout the unit they are expected to produce an Instagram post, a tweet for Twitter, and a Blog post on behalf of the class and will be posted by the teacher.Link
