Hello Gibbs Families!
Summer is just around the corner, so make plans to avoid the summer slide! What is the Summer Slide? It’s a loss of between one and three months of progress made during the school year. Research shows that reading just 6 books over the summer will make the difference, but a little every day is ideal.
You can find books everyone will enjoy by visiting the Rochester Public Library or the bookmobile. Check their website for more information or call them at (507) 328-2300.
If you are on the go this summer, try reading ebooks on your portable device with Libby. https://meet.libbyapp.com/ . This app from the Rochester Public Library will help you download and read ebooks and audiobooks on the go. It even lets you sign up for a virtual library card with your cell phone number. Easy! There are lots of great books for kids available here for free. Have a look at Libby!
Don’t forget the Rochester Public Schools online information portal MackinVia! https://www.mackinvia.com/ There are thousands of ebooks, informational websites, databases and encyclopedias to help answer your questions and expand your mind. Use your child’s school ID and school password to enter.
If you complete the Gibbs reading log there will be prizes and a visit to the Gibbs Reading Celebration in the fall.
Happy Summer Reading!
