Cardboard Relief Art

Fifth Graders used the concept of relief art to create these dimensional art pieces. Students had to demonstrate their understanding of the three types of relief, high, low and sunken in their creations. Ideas came to life through the design process, as they started with sketching and generating different ideas. Their ideas came to life through the use of a variety of cardboard materials.  Students learned that working with cardboard is not always the easiest of materials, but ended up completing some very cool art!

Peanuts Character in the Snow!

Third Grade students paid honor to Charles M. Schultz in December for his birthday month. They used Schultz rules of character creation to draw images of themselves. Students used simple shapes and lines to create triangle shaped bodies, long squished oval feet, and round faces. The eyes, nose and mouth of the characters were created with only the minimal features resembling the look of the famous Charlie Brown and his gang.  Students used value to create the night sky, blending white and blue to imitate the glow of the moon.

Neon Lights Inspired Art

4th Graders used the lights of Las Vegas to inspire this art project! They used chalk pastels on black paper to create images that resembled the glow of a neon light. Students learned that the glow of neon lights is created by gasses inside a glass tube. The combination of different gasses creates a variety of colors. Each light illuminates from the inside, starting with a bright white light, followed by color. The smudged edges resembles the glow of light as it fades into the night sky!
