Hello, my name is Megan Bye (You can call me Mrs. Bye, Mrs. B or Miss Megan), pictured with me is my husband Brad. We have lived here now for 5 years.
I am a Speech/ Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) for the Bemidji Area Schools District. This is my fifth year with the district and I will be working with students here at Lincoln School mostly with the EXCEL Program but I may end up with more general education students as the year progreses. A little background information on me:
I grew up in a small town in Central Minnesota called Ogilvie with my Mom, Dad and my little brother Jared.
I did my undergraduate schooling through the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where I got my bachelors degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
After that I decided to take a few years off and ended up working as a Teachers Assistant down in Owatonna, Minnesota with the community education program along with being a swim instructor.
Shortly after that I decided it was time to go back to school to further my degree with the Alexandria Technical and Community College's SLPA Program.
Somethings to know about me: I like to do fun projects, play lots of new exciting games with the kids to get them excited about learning and enjoy watching the students grow. I am so excited to be working with your students and can not wait to get to know them!
Hello my name is Elizabeth Anderson I am a Speech Language Pathologist over at the Paul Bunyan Center. I will be doing remote supervisions of Mrs. Megan at Lincoln. My role is to be Mrs. Bye's supervisor and I make sure that the services provided are in accordance to the IEP goals for each student. I do most of the evaluations for BiCap and Paul Bunyan and have my own caseload as well. I look forward to talking with you about your student(s) and getting to know them throughout the year!
What is an SLPA? Why are they working with my Student?
An SLPA is a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant. They have been hired by the district to help service the ever growing amount of students we have here in the district. Most SLPA's have their 4 year degree and are either waiting to get into graduate school to pursue their Masters Degree to become a SLP or they have decided that a Masters Degree is not for them. They have all the necessary training to help your students grow and achieve their speech and language goals. However a SLPA needs to have a supervising SLP that can do the Evaluations, and IEP paperwork for your students. The SLPA and SLP work closely together to maintain efficiency of services and to discuss future therapy plans for each student they service together. If you have any further questions please feel free to reach out to the SLP or SLPA that services your student and we would be happy to answer any of your questions you may have.
