Class Description

This class prepares you to pass the NAHA state exam and build skills to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide. If you pass the class exams/skills, there is a simulated 2-day clinical in the lab. State test fees are paid through a grant. Students with a "B" or better can earn 5 articulated credits to HTC.

Minimum Requirements

  • Class Groups 4 and 5 (see eligibility chart on the HOME page)

  • Documentation to work in the U.S. (Social Security # or work visa)

  • You need access to a computer to complete class assignments.

What do Nursing Assistants and Health Aides do?

Winter Class (hybrid)

Dec 7 - Mar 3 (No class Dec 22- 31, Jan 7, Feb 4)

  • You must attend the Zoom classes, study class materials in D2L, practice NA skills in person, do the clinical (pass skills test), and take the state test (written/skills).

Tuesday Zoom Classes 2 - 4 pm

  • ALSO, independent study (homework) in D2L online class site - about 4 hrs/wk (22 hrs total)

Wednesday In-person Skills Lab 1 - 3 pm

  • Metro South Bloomington - Room 234

Friday Zoom Classes (required support class) 9 - 10:30 am

2-day (16 hr) In-person Clinical

  • Group 1: Feb 28 and Mar 2 (8:30 - 4:30)

  • Group 2: Mar 1 and 3 (8:30 - 4:30)

  • Metro South Bloomington, Room 234

At the end of class: State NAHA Test at Hennepin Technical College (Eden Prairie)

  • After the class, register through HTC (bring paperwork and ID)

  • You must take the exam during March - June (for free test)

  • If you have to retake the test, study and practice your skills again. You must pay for your own test ($186) the second time.

      • Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) Certificate (6 months)

      • Nursing Station Technician Diploma (1 year, incl. HUC program)

Central Services Technician - Certificate Program (Minneapolis Community and Technical College)

  • In this program, you will learn how to sterilize medical instruments, learn basic surgical instrumentation and medical terminology as well as decontamination and sterilization processes. Once you complete the program can take the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution’s certification exam.
