This 40-hour certification class will prepare you to work immediately as an entry-level interpreter in schools, healthcare clinics, and the community. The average wage for interpreters in the Twin Cities metro is $28 - 34 /hr!
Topics: ethics and conduct, interpreter skills, mediation, cultural competency, community services, standards of practice, and vocabulary skill-building.

At the end of class: written exam (75% passing) and practice interview.
Expect 3 - 4 hours of independent reading homework each week
Class Group 5 . Must have a high school diploma (foreign ok) or be in Adult Diploma or GED program
Documentation to work in the U.S.
Fluent in a second language
Recommended to take Med Term class first, if possible

CCHI offers the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) certification- written and oral language interview in English and home language
Interpreter benefits of getting the OPI certification:
Valid recognition, preferred by healthcare providers, increased demand, lifelong advancement opportunities
An OPI score of Advanced High is good enough for medical interpreting.
