Below are some recommended websites, apps, and supplemental materials that we
recommend for our students.
If you have any questions or would like input on any orchestra supplies you are purchasing for your student that are not featured on this list, please don't hesitate to reach out to your student's orchestra teacher!
Required Accessories
Shoulder Rest (for violin & viola)
Students in 6th grade and up are required to upgrade to a shoulder rest. We recommend Everest and Kun brand shoulder rests. When shopping for a shoulder rest please be mindful that it is the correct size for your student's instrument
Rock Stop/Endpin Anchor (for cello & bass)
Cello and bass players need a rock stop to prevent endpin slipping while playing on low-pile carpet or slippery floor surfaces. You can get one on Amazon, or the rental store you rent your student's instrument from
Cello players also have an alternate choice for a rock stop called an endpin anchor. The strap goes on the player's chair leg and adds extra support since cellos sit at an angle. Cello players only need one or the other (rock stop or endpin anchor), not both!
Required Books
5th grade uses the String Basics Book 1. Can be purchased with your rental from your store, or can be found online.
6th and 7th grade uses String Basics Book 2.
8th Grade uses String Basics Book 3
HS does not currently have any required books
Recommended Materials:
Professional Rosin (Jade)
Practice Mutes (violin/viola) (cello) really great for students to practice at home at a lower volume as to not disturb the rest of the family. Comes in rubber, or for a quieter response get a metal one.
