Supervisor Role:
The supervisor's job is to guide students through the process, discuss options with them and help them set and meet deadlines and goals.
The supervisor is NOT an editor.
The supervisor does not have to be an expert in the student's topic.
The Students must have ownership of the project and it must stay in their hands - in other words, they don’t have to take your advice.
The Supervisor must ensure that the student can score a 4 or above and IF NOT contact the parents via a Managebac Progress Report and alert the Personal Project Coordinator.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
Meet with the student during the designated meeting times
During every meeting with the student, write down a summary of what was discussed with the student, which will be copied and pasted into the IB Academic Honesty Form before the Final Report is submitted.
We are required to submit all of the student's progress to the Academic Honesty Form
Ensure that students meet the internal deadlines. All deadlines are posted in the Calendar on this Google Site
Ensure the personal project topic satisfies appropriate legal and ethical standards concerning health and safety, confidentiality, human rights, animal welfare and environmental issues.
Confirm the authenticity of the work submitted
Write detailed report comments on both the Exhibition and the report including areas of strength and explaining how the student could have scored higher.
Assess the personal project according to the criteria, and take part in the internal moderation process in March.
What To Discuss During Meetings
In Google Classroom you can follow the Meeting Agenda Instructions to help guide you on what to focus on for each meeting.
Optional: You can use the GROWTH coaching model question starters to help support the student and unpack where they are currently in their personal project. It's a useful model to organise the meeting and help the student set goals.
Goals: What do you need to achieve?
Reality: What is happening now?
Options: What could you do?
Will: What will you do?
Tactics: How and when will you do it?
Habits: How will you sustain your success?
