Weapons of Math Destruction (2016) explores how big data algorithms, termed "Weapons of Math Destruction" (WMDs), amplify inequality by being opaque, unregulated, and damaging, disproportionately harming disadvantaged groups and reinforcing societal biases. The book highlights the pervasive and often harmful use of such algorithms in areas like education, employment, credit scoring, and criminal justice, showing how these mathematical models can create destructive feedback loops and threaten democracy.
