ISB Secondary School Handbook
Erik Lutley
ISB Secondary School Principal
Principals Welcome
Dear Secondary Families,
I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to all members of the International School of Belgrade's Secondary School community. As we embark on a new chapter together, I am honored to introduce myself as Erik, your Secondary School Principal for the academic year ahead.
A citizen of the world, I was born and raised in Iceland by American parents, and for the past 25 years, I have called Poland my home, holding citizenships from each of these countries. My journey in international education began in a small British international school in Poland, where I taught English Language and Literature. Over the last eighteen years, I have had the privilege of serving as the Secondary School Principal at the International School of Krakow.
What draws me to ISB is the resonance I find in its Mission, Vision, and Values, closely aligned with my own educational philosophy. As a lifelong learner, I am eager to immerse myself in the diverse and dynamic community that ISB offers and even add Serbian as my fourth spoken language.
Throughout my career, I have garnered valuable experiences in leading change, developing learning processes, and fostering a strong sense of community. Engaged in accreditation cycles, teacher supervision and evaluation, and student feedback processes, I bring a commitment to positive collaboration and unified vision.
I describe myself as a good listener who believes in assuming positive intent, focused on finding solutions and building a common purpose. My approach to education involves recruiting highly qualified teachers while also nurturing the talent of our young, "home-grown" educators. I have learned that a blend of humor, wisdom, and openness to listening is the key to fostering a thriving school environment.
In the upcoming academic year, we will continue our dedication to the well-being of each student through social-emotional learning (SEL) and homeroom programs. Our commitment to enhancing teaching and learning approaches and transparent communication remains unwavering.
I am excited to be part of the ISB community, and I look forward to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to create a positive and enriching environment for our students. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. Here's to a successful and fulfilling academic year at the International School of Belgrade!
Warm regards,
Erik
