Air Pollution

Hong Kong Government relies on the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI). The AQHI is a health risk based index that makes reference to the short term World Health Organisation Guidelines as a basis to define the level where risk to health is high due to short term exposure to air pollution.

The AQHI will provide more timely and useful air pollution information on a scale of 1 to 10.

The KIS PE Department has adopted the AQHI Guidelines issued by the Environmental Protection Department (EDP).

Applicants for Transcripts and Teacher Recommendations

KIS receives many requests for transcripts and teacher recommendations to support applicants for schools and universities.

All parents who require such transcripts or recommendations from the school must allow a reasonable amount of time for teachers and secretarial staff to complete the process. Please note that it can take our office up to 15 working days to finalise application papers when multiple schools are involved. We cannot entertain requests for references and transcripts that are needed within 5 days or less.

Requests should be submitted as a packet to the Head of Secondary, who will then prepare supporting documentation such as transcripts and distribute the recommendations forms to teachers in good time with their requests, appreciating that this is an extremely busy time and giving sufficient notice. Teachers will the return completed forms to the Head of Secondary for completion and mailing of the complete packet of documentation.

Fire Drill

When the fire alarm sounds you must follow these procedures promptly and in silence:

• close the windows, turn off the lights, switch off the air conditioners, unplug heaters and close the door, leaving it unlocked.
• line up outside the classroom, keeping quiet and orderly so you can hear instructions.
• do not take bags or other belongings.
• move quickly but safely down the nearest set of steps, keeping to the footpath, line up in Tutor Groups in alphabetical order in the front parking lot (preferred routes are shown on all door of each room).
• The Tutor will take the register and students will be dismissed when it is appropriate.

Use of the Canteen

• Food and drink should only be consumed in the canteen and should not be removed from there at any time.
• All students are permitted to purchase snacks from the canteen at break, or take their own there for consumption.
• At lunch time students go to the canteen for lunch at the following times:

Year 7 - 12:30

Year 8 - 12:35

Year 9 - Year 13 - 12:45

• Year 12 and 13 students may go to the canteen for lunch if they have non-contact periods. They may also bring tea and coffee to consume in the canteen.
• Please line up outside the canteen quietly.
• Please eat lunch quickly and leave the canteen promptly.
• You must leave the lunch area clean and tidy.

Use of the Play Areas

1. Students, teachers and visitors to the school should be able to move through play areas without fear of being hit by balls thrown or kicked by students.
2. Basketball is permitted on the 6th floor tennis court.
3. Football is permitted on the ground floor basketball area but only with special 'soft' balls signed out from the PE department. Sensible rules should apply to ensure clothing is not torn and players are not hurt.
4. Secondary students are not permitted in the recess area when it is primary recess.
5. Skateboarding or rollerskating is not permitted.
