THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME AT ISHR
Curriculum Model
The Diploma structure is displayed in the model below with six academic subject groups surrounding a core.
- Three (or occasionally four) subjects are taken at Higher Level (HL), the others at Standard Level (SL)
- HL courses represent a recommended total 240 teaching hours, SL courses 150 hours, over the two years of the course.
- In 11th Grade, HL courses usually have five teaching periods a week, SL courses usually have three.
- Candidates must take one subject from:
- Studies in Language and Literature
- Language Acquisition (or instead they can take a second subject from Studies in Language and Literature)
- Individuals and Societies
- Sciences
- Mathematics
- The Arts (students can select an additional subject from Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies or Sciences instead of an Arts course)
- The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Action, Service are core requirements of the Diploma Programme which all students complete.
