Program Definition, Rationale & Assumptions

Program Definition:  The Singley Counseling Department will work with all stakeholders in our school and community to provide students with a comprehensive school counseling program.  By using a comprehensive counseling program that addresses academic, personal/social, and career goals, we will empower students to become productive citizens in a global society. 

Rationale:  In order for us to empower students to become productive citizens, we have to prepare them to learn and grow socially and emotionally.  We need to provide a safe and secure environment, where emotional and academic needs are met. This means we have goals to help guide our program that are clear and that align with our campus improvement plan.   

Assumptions:  

• Implementation of the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Program for delivery system components  

• Provide equal access to the counseling programs and resources

• Campus Administration will be familiar with and support the counseling program

• Yearly assessment and evaluation of the counseling program

• Partner with parents, staff, and community members to support Singley Academy students

• Use our counseling department budget to fund materials to assist in guidance lessons, career planning, and established interventions for our students.

• Professional development opportunities for counselors to enhance their skills/abilities

Developing Goals

Singley Academy's School Counseling program goals are paramount to the success of our program.  Setting goals provides us with direction and forces us to be intentional about supporting students.  When creating our goals, we used a variety of data points, collaborated with stake holders, looked at attendance/discipline/achievement data as well as data obtained from our yearly needs assessments to help guide us in the direction needed to write our goals.

Evaluating Our Program

At the conclusion of the school year, we will evaluate our counseling program.  We will evaluate the data provided from our SMART goal implementation using pre and post assessments.  We will evaluate the feedback from our Counseling Advisory Council and make adjustments when needed.  The feedback provided from our attendance, discipline and achievement data will provide valuable information to help evaluate the effectiveness of our program.   We will also review the data from our needs assessment to our students and staff.
