Indian River runs on a six day cycle with the letters A-F. Please pay attention to the special calendar that is sent home so you know what letter day it is and what special we have. When I talk about specials I am referring to gym, art, music, health and library. Please make sure your child has sneakers for gym. You may also leave a pair at school.
Our day begins at 9:00 and ends at 3:30. Lunch is a half hour long. Each special area is 40 minutes long. All the other time is spent in the classroom with our fun, exciting learning activities. I do give the children frequent bathroom/drink breaks; brain break activities; and we also break with music and dancing. I try to take the children outside for recess weather permitting. Recess and snack is at the end of the day.
Math is about 45 minutes. Our kindergarten math is very hands on. Instruction is whole group, paired activities and individual activities.
Content areas(science and social studies) is incorporated through our read alouds and interactive writing. This is usually about half hour.
Writer's Workshop is about half hour. We start with a modeled lesson and then the children work independently.
