Grading Philosophy
Grading Philosophy
All grading practices should reflect student achievement. Therefore I commit to the following:
- Grades will be based on demonstrated understanding.
- Assessments will be organized by standards.
- A final course grade will be an average of percentages. (see course syllabus)
- A grade will not become final until the end of the semester.
- Students are expected to complete all assigned work.
- There will be times when students are expected to do work outside the school day.
- Retakes are allowed (except last two weeks of a semester), and may even be required. Here is the WVHS Reassessment policy.
- All students will be accountable for their academic integrity.

Grades are calculated as follows:
Grades are calculated as follows:
- ‘Z’ represents an assignment that can still be turned in for credit (partial or full); assignment was not turned in on time.
- ‘0’ represents an assignment that can no longer be turned in for credit.
- 'X' represents an assignment that is being excused.
- ‘TI’ (turned in) represents a larger assignment, such as an essay or project, has been turned in but has not been graded.
- 'M' represents a missing assignment that has not yet been calculated as a zero. This assignment can still be completed for credit.
