Safety and Sanitation: Learn how to keep the kitchen clean and safe at all times.
Culinary Fundamentals: Learn the basics needed to begin cooking: kitchen tools, kitchen math/equivalents, measuring, etc.
Grains: Learn the basics of types of grains, types of breads, and the ingredients used to make them.
Fruits, Vegetables, and Dairy: Learn about the nutrient value of fruits, vegetables, and dairy. Explore the many foods that make up the dairy group. End the unit with a smoothie making competition.
Proteins: Learn the basics of preparing a variety of protein foods.
Desserts: Explore a variety of dessert foods and the processes involved in baking.
Careers: Students will learn about careers in foods, other than being a chef. They will end the semester by creating their own food truck business with a group.
