7th Grade FACS Information

Welcome to 7th grade FACS!

Topics covered in this class:

  • Resumes & Interviews for Classroom Jobs: Students will participate in a real-world simulation of applying for and interviewing for a job. The students will then receive their job assignments and keep these for the semester.
  • Hand Sewing Basics: Learn the basics in sewing equipment use and safety. Practice several sewing stitches and even sew on a button! Finish the unit making a stuffed donut using the stitches they learned!
  • Nutrition and Food Preparation: Learn the basics of food safety and sanitation, kitchen tools, and kitchen math/equivalents. Begin preparing foods with an emphasis on nutrition, especially the importance of eating breakfast.
  • Machine Sewing Basics: Learn the basics of using the sewing machine. Students will learn how to thread it themselves and end the unit by creating a machine sewn project!
  • Consumerism: Learn the basics of being a good culinary consumer. Specifically we will look at grocery shopping, reading nutrition fact labels and food packaging, and the difference between name brand and generic foods.
  • Global Foods: The students will participate in a research project focusing on how foods from other cultures/countries differ from what we are accustomed to in the U.S.
