collaborate with veteran staff/DC
conference with the student
successful two-way parent contact (parent acknowledgement of communication)
School wide cell phone expectations-
At Waubonsie Valley, our expectation is that cell phones will not interfere with the learning process.
In my classroom, this looks like placing your cell phone in pockets at the start of class.
Suggestions for success
Assign numbers to students for accountability, not attendance
Be aware of time at start/end of period
Cell phones should not leave class for any trip with intent to return (i.e. bathroom)
Be mindful of pocket placement within classroom and what is put in pockets (i.e. burner phone, phone case only, etc.)
The classroom environment should be a safe space that is conducive to learning. This includes mutual respect between staff, students, and peers.
Suggestions for success
Provide structure from bell to bell for students' academic and social-emotional needs
Be mindful of peer relationships and needs when creating seating charts and edit as necessary
Exercise the autonomy of YOUR classroom (the power of no, clear expectations, etc.)
Implementation of restorative practice at WVHS looks like communicating respect and promoting dignity
Suggestions for success
Take the time to build relationships with students
Leverage those relationships to find a solution
Illegal items/paraphernalia still cannot be displayed
