Did you know that one of the most important spots in the classroom is the carpet or rug? It is so important to the learning environment. Everyday, many times a day, students gather on the rug for lessons or stories. Coming together on the carpet helps us come together to share our thinking and focus our learning. This rug is maintained by the teacher, myself who tries to vacuum it as often as possible. Myself nor the students want to sit in dirt. This is where school shoes makes a difference.
I request students to bring in a pair of "school shoes". Ideally these shoes are hard soled, easy to put on and also serve as gym shoes. However crocs, or hard soled slippers would work too. Students leave this pair of shoes at school each night. Each day upon arrival students take off their outside/home shoes in the hallway leaving all the mud, dirt and snow outside of the classroom. Students then wear their "school shoes" around the classroom, bathrooms and to specials. Each time we go outside, we switch shoes. It is amazing how much this helps keep our floor clean and reduces the amount of vacuuming I am doing each day. IF possible please send in a pair of school shoes.
