ELA- Imagine That is our new theme for this unit. We read fables, folktales and poetry that evoked our imagination and understanding of these genres.
Writing- Students have been writing their opinions about various topics; favorite color, favorite playground equipment.....
Word Study- CVCe- these words have the long vowel sound with a silent e. When students attack a new word we encourage them to look for the "e" at the end of a word to help signal a long vowel sound. We also encourage students to "flip the sound". Students typically always blend with a short vowel. When it doesn't make sense to them, we tell readers to flip the sound to the long vowel sound.
Math- Unit 3 was all about measurement and data. We measured with both non-standard (paper clips, cotton balls) and standard units (centimeter cubes) . Not only do students need to measure the length of an object, but find the difference between two or more objects. What application!!
Social Studies- I loved learning about your family's traditions. The class did an amazing job presenting their projects. We ALL are Same, Same, but Different!
Science- To prepare for our upcoming trip to the Planetarium we have been learning about day patterns. We have learned about how shadows are created and how the location of the sun determines the length of the shadow.
