The Executive Panel (2020 - 2021)
Especially in these times, engaging in a community is essential in every person's life. Whether introverts to extroverts, we all need a community to support us in our everyday actions. As a result of quarantine and online learning, the typical IPoly High School experience has shifted.
CSS’s goal is to encourage, empower, and engage all IPoly Students, especially through online learning. Our primary mission is to build community among all students, even those who have never met in person. Here is what we have done to reach this goal and what we will do for the future freshmen of IPoly.
Entering a school that completely different from your district high school can be challenging to some. The Freshmen Leader & Learner Program is here to help. The incoming Freshmen are placed with upperclassmen on day one. Our leaders all have their own stories and have gone through many things the freshmen will go through. As students of IPoly, we can help them with project advice, help them get tutoring, confidence, and being there to talk whenever! Check out our most recent event!
The Freshmen Leader & Learner Program (2020- 2021)
We (students) all have questions when we start a new semester, school year, and project. CSS hosts at the beginning of each semester a chance to ask the prior class what to expect. The Freshmen get to talk to the Upperclassmen before they start their journey at IPoly (project here), after their first semester (project here), and at the end of their first year. In these sessions, our panelist answer any question the freshmen/ future freshmen may have. This could be about projects, teachers, curriculum, IPoly life, clubs, etc.
At our Student Skill Workshops, everyone is able to hear from students and their tips and tricks they have learned at IPoly. This can range from organization, study skills, research tactics, how to work in groups, and so much more. We do many of these through the year to help the IPoly community and put together "experts" on the subjects as our panelist.
Of course Collaborative Student Success is not all work and projects. We also put together many community events. We have our own discord server with 75% of the student body present on it. This allows us to hold game days and movie nights even in lockdown with little lag. We hold community service hour events to bring people together for a common goal from all grades. Finally we also hold discussion events that allows students to learn acceptance from every point of view.
Our mission is to create community, so of course we embrace this message. When we start a new event or committee we allow any grade to help. This creates new opportunities for Freshmen to practice working in groups (outside of their grade), pitching their ideas, marketing projects to their classmates, leading events themselves, speaking up for themselves (self advocacy), and being in our student family!
