People need nutritious food to be healthy. Where we live can influence what we eat. This is because not all foods have the same availability in every location. Improved accessibility to healthy foods can help more people have food security. What do you think people can do to address this issue? How can they improve the access to healthy food?
To achieve equity in a city's food system, the people who live there must address food security issues. Some issues are challenges that need solutions. Others are opportunities for city leaders and community members to think of innovations. Local agriculture is one way to help make a city’s food environment sustainable for the people who live there. When solutions and innovations improve food security for everyone in a city, they help to create sustainability.
People are over the world depend on the global food system for the food they eat. Farms are the sources of most food. Food from farms enters a system of production to clean and package food so that it can be sent to stores. The food moves through distribution systems to reach stores, markets, restaurants, and other places that sell food. People buy or eat food during the consumption part of the global food system. Each part of the global food system can contribute to climate change and can impact food security globally.
