Our contest was not as successful as expected since participation was very low. We have learned a few lessons from it that we would like to share with you.
First of all, as organizers, we have to firmly believe in the potential of the project we are developing and mandatorily participate in it. We trusted too much in participation and ended up with just 5 participants. We should have participated and encouraged people with our example.
Secondly, as organizers, we should have been more precise in organizing and promoting the contest. We thought that people who sign up would participate and eventually they did not. Next contest we organize, we will put more emphasis and make sure participation is well confirmed.
Lastly, we have realized that eating healthy and being mindful of food security are habits that mostly come from home and develop little by little. Then, our task is first to get inner motivation, since the real and important motivation is the one that comes from ourselves, not from outside. Once we believe in our motivation, we have a task to raise awareness among our families and continue motivated to change eating habits and make a real difference.
To be coherent with our reflections and to develop personal commitment, our Global Scholars class has decided to set up a Refreshing & Healthy Corner during the last 6 days of high school. All the students are invited to bring a healthy breakfast consisting of seasonable summer fruits and water. This would help us to cope with these hot days in MatarĂ³, to be healthy, and to learn first-hand experience what a healthy breakfast is like.
