This half term, our topic is Identity and Diversity. We will be learning about what it's like to be a part of a community. We will focus on the character skills and how we can develop them to be good members of our classroom community.
Our core text this term is 'Its Ok to be Different' by Todd Paar and we will be linking this to other stories relating to themselves, exploring what makes us different.
We will model language using simple sentences and ask simple questions. We will slowly be introducing key vocabulary and giving children time to practice.
We will practise counting using nursery rhymes, focusing on numbers 1-5. We will then explore 2D shapes, using shapes, constructions and puzzles.
We will be using rhymes and stories to support their attention and listening skills to differentiate different sounds, for example "twinkle twinkle little star ", "Five current buns in baker shop" and " Finger family".

This half term, our topic is Identity and Diversity (The Family book). We will be learning about each other’s favourite family food and recipes which we will collate to form a community cookbook. This will support us in learning about the different cultures in our local area.
Our core text this term is "The Family Book" by Todd Parr. We will read this book, children will learn that all families are special regardless of their size and shape and understand that their family members love them. All families have different traditions, children will try a variety of food from different cultures. We will talk about their family members, who they live with.Some children might live with their grandparents, uncles and aunties and some children might have pets.
Using our core text "The Family Book" and a variety of activities, children will learn new vocabulary. The adult will model language and use key vocabulary. Children will be encouraged to take turns to talk about their family members. Children will be encouraged to use small sentences and modelled language by adults and to answer simple questions.
This term we will be introducing a variety of activities to incorporate mathematical skills for example counting the spiders they catch using the tweezers, counting who's in school today. Children will be using mathematical language for example full and empty, big and small whilst exploring with water play and other activities. We will be singing number songs and rhymes. We will then explore 2D shapes, using shapes, constructions and puzzles.
Children will be taking turns to talk about their families and pets, they are taking turns to share resources for example the trikes, scissors. They will be learning to follow Nest routines and expectations, select and choose activities independently. At snack time children will learn about their likes and dislikes. Children will continue to build positive relationships with their peers and adults.
Children will be using a variety of different materials to make family portraits and houses. Children will be learning about different textures, colour, feel, smell and taste. This term we will be exploring with musical instruments to hear different sounds and play the instruments along with the rhymes.
To support Children's gross motor skills, children will be using small trikes to push along and to steer around the obstacles and their peers with good control. Children will also be also exploring with small obstacle courses and dancing to music. To support children's fine motor skills, we will be using a variety of different tools. Children also will be using one handed tools for example scissors (It will be supervised) to make small cuts in paper.

During the spring term, the learning in Nest will be based around the global theme ‘Social Justice and Equity’. The focus of the term is learning everyone is different but should be treated fairly.
Our Core text this term is "Goldilocks and the Three Bears". We will be reading this book with children. Through the story children will be developing their imagination skills. understanding emotions, developing their language. they will be also learning concepts of size and comparison and problem solving.
Children will be developing their communication and language through the story and as well as through other activities. Children will be encouraged to use a modelled language. They will be storytelling and retelling the story in their own words, they will also use descriptive language like describing. They will continue building up their vocabulary linked to the topic through carpet and free flow sessions. Children will also learn how to answer simple questions 'who', 'when' and where' in context. Children will also be encouraged to use learnt vocabulary and speak in full simple sentences such as, "I like mummy bear". Respond to instructions involving two- part sequences.
In Maths , this term we will focus on:
Ordinality of numbers - counting accurately 1-5 using counting nursery rhymes
Cardinality of numbers - counting accurately 1-5 using number blocks
Size and comparison- using mathematical language like big, small, full and empty.
We will then explore 2D shapes, using shapes, constructions and puzzles.
To support children's imagination and creativity, they will be exploring with range of media and materials. They will alk about the texture, like feel, touch, smell and taste. Children will learn to express themselves through art, songs and dances. Children will be exploring using different colour paint, and painting for purpose and give meanings to marks they paint and draw.
Our focus will be on Foundations for Phonics which is part of Little Wandle, using rhymes and stories.The rhymes and stories will support children in their early reading. They will be able to differentiate sounds made by instruments, animals and body percussion. They will also learn the sounds in our environment, we are going for walk on the field to listen to different sounds. We will be singing "Miss Poly had a dolly", "I am a little tea pot", and "If you happy and you know it".

During the spring term, we will continue to explore Social Justice and Equity. The focus of the term is learning about what is fair and unfair and the importance of caring and sharing. Our core text "Inside the Villains" is a super concept for a book celebrating the tradition of fairy tales for children. it profiles three fairy tales' worst offenders; the wolf, the giant and the witch.
Nest core-text for this term is 'The Three Little Pigs ' by Richard Johnson. The core-text will support children to talk about settings and characters. The story will also support children to learn
Cause and effect: Understand that the wolf blows down the straw and stick house but not the brick house. learning about different materials.
Sounds: Learning animal names and their sounds.
Friendship and helping others: Understand that the pigs help each other to escape the wolf.
To continue to develop children's communication and language, the adults will model rich vocabulary, children will be encouraged to use the rich vocabulary to describe and use in their play. children will use repeat key phrases. Children will answer and ask simple questions. Adults will support and encourage children to extend their sentences through carpet sessions and other activities.
In Maths , this term we will focus on:
Patterns: To create simple patterns, using a variety of objects, materials and body movements.
Shapes: Identifying Different shapes in our environment. Shape puzzles. Play dough to create shapes.
Counting: We will learning to count and identify numbers through rhymes and other activities like counting blocks, counting food.
Measuring: Children will be using different items like cup, spoons, spades to measure water , sand. Talk about "more", "less", "full", and " empty".
This half term children will be encouraged to play collaborative games and activities that require children to work together, share, resources and take turns, like helping each other to dress up in different costumes, building together using variety construction materials. Children to initiate play, offering cues to peers to join in. Children will be encouraged and modelled to express their own preferences and interest through activities.
To support children's Expressive art and design, they will explore and experiment with a range of media through sensory exploration. Begin to describe the texture of different materials, Exploring with musical instruments to create sounds. Experiment with a range of paint, mixing the colours to create another colour. Children to join in with dancing and ring games.

During the Summer term, we will be exploring Social Justice and Equity. The focus of the term is learning about the environment and examining the impact of human activity. Our core text "Where's the Elephant" is a visionary picture book which pairs a beautiful wordless storytelling experience with a powerful message. What starts as a game of jungle hide-and-seek quickly turns into the consequences of deforestation upon the animal kingdom.
This Term our core text is "Jack and the Beanstalk". Children will be listening to the story, using props to act out the story. Children will be acting out the story, getting into different roles. Also throughout this term they will engaging in a variety of activities to embed the story, taking turns to explore with variety of different colour beans. Planting beans, and watching it grow. They will also be making beanstalk using variety of different materials.
Children will be continuing to develop their communication and language skills, through the story and as well as through other activities. Children will be encouraged to use a modelled language. They will be storytelling and retelling the story in their own words, they will also use descriptive language like describing. They will continue building up their vocabulary linked to the topic through carpet sessions and free flow sessions. Children will be encouraged to say short sentences and be supported to use to extend their sentence.
In maths, children will be learning to identify and count accurately numerals 1-5. Children will continue to subitise quantity up to 5 using objects, picture cards and items that can be counted.
Measurement-Capacity-using mathematical language of quantities such as 'more' and 'a lot'.
Repeat Pattern- identifying and creating repeat pattern. Notice simple shapes and patterns in pictures and around the environment.
This half term children will be encouraged to speak to their peers and adults about their own needs, interests and opinions. Play in a group, extending and elaborating play ideas, e.g. building up a role-play with other children. Children will continue to play cooperatively, taking turns with peers and continue to show interest in others play and join in.
This term, Nest children will be using their creative skills to choose the best materials for the story 'Jack and bean stalk". They will use different materials and tools to create their own Beanstalk. They will explore and experiment with a range of media through sensory exploration and describe the texture of different materials, Exploring with musical instruments to create sounds. Experiment with a range of paint, mixing the colours to create another colour. Children to join in with dancing and ring games.
Fine Motor Skills: Children will continue to develop their fine motor skills using a variety of equipment, like pens, pencil, crayons, and one handed tools, scissors, also children will be encouraged to complete jigsaws and build using a variety of construction materials.
Gross motor skills: Children will continue to develop their gross motor skills, through a variety of activities, children will be supported to ride the bikes by peddling and steering around obstacles and their peers with good control. They will also use small apparatus to balance and walk across the beam.
Following Little Wandle, Nest children will focus on Nursery rhymes, stories and songs. These learning opportunities will support children's vocabulary and enable them to express themselves. Children will also be listening for initial sounds at the beginning of their names and their friends' names.They will continue to differentiate sounds made by instruments, animals and body percussion. Children will learn about different sounds by playing simple games like " whats in the box, sound games.

During the Summer term, we will continue to explore Sustainable development. The focus of the term is to explore the impact of human activity on the environment. Our core text "Bee: Nature's Tiny Miracle" allows you to follow a little bee's journey from flower to flower and learn about the special job he does. We will be learning how bees help the environment and create our very own fact files.
During this term, Nest children will explore storytelling and the themes of sustainable development through 'The Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle. The children will use sequence cards to retell the story in their own words . The children will look at the life cycle of plants and have real life experiences of planting and growing in the outdoor environment. Children will learn about what a seed needs to grow, how it can grow into a plant, they will also learn parts of the plants such as roots, stem, and leaves. They will explore with different size and shape seeds. They will also experience exploring with different fruit and vegetables that consist of seeds.
This term, children will be using new vocabulary associated with their topic on growing through activities set up in provision. Children will also practice their vocabulary through rhymes that have repeating refrains that children can learn and join in during carpet sessions or independently. They will be encouraged and supported to retell the story in their own words and continue to use descriptive language like describing. Children will also be encouraged to respond to questions using full sentences. They will also be using sentences stems such as
I know..... I wonder....... I think.

This term, Nest children will continue to learn about how to work collaboratively. They will continue learning how to express their likes and dislikes. With support, children will learn to follow class routines and expectations, select and choose activities independently and children will be continuing to build on their social skills, being independent as they prepare for Nursery in September. Children will be supported to really understand our values through their play and learning. The Nest team will support the children to be fully prepared for moving to the next group.
This term, Nest children will be using their creative skills to choose the best materials for the story 'The Tiny Seed". They will use different materials and tools to create their own plant. They will explore and experiment with a range of media through sensory exploration and describe the texture of different materials, Such as they will using paint to make hand prints to make flowers and other parts of plant and describe the paint texture. This term children will continue to explore musical instruments to create sounds.
Fine Motor Skills: This term children will continue to use a variety of tools to support their fine motor skills. they will also begin to trace over their name so they can identify letters in their name. Children will continue to build structures for a purpose using construction materials and complete jigsaw by rotating the shape and slotting into correct space.
Gross motor skills: This term children will take part in different activities to support their gross motor skills. such as, throwing bean bags into a hoop. walking on balancing beams, throwing and kicking the ball back and forth to their peers which will support children's hand-eye coordination.
This term we will continue to follow Little Wandle, Nest children will focus on Nursery rhymes, stories and songs, this will support children in their early reading. Children continue to play sound games and listen to the sounds in our environment, we will also be introducing letter sounds, to prepare them for nursery.
