(a) What inspired you to join Language Tables? / どういうきっかけでTablesに参加しましたか？

I was planning to study abroad in Toulouse, France, so I joined this activity to have the opportunity to use French outside of class.

交換留学でフランスのトゥールーズに留学予定があり、授業以外でフランス語を使う機会を持つために参加しました。 

(b) What did you enjoy about participating in Language Tables? / Tablesに参加してよかったことは？

Through Language Tables, I found friends with whom I could speak French outside of class, which became a great motivation for learning French. It was also a place where I could connect with ICU students in a way that was different from classes or clubs. 

授業外でフランス語が話せる仲間が見つかり、言語を学ぶモチベーションになりました。

ICUの学生と、授業ともサークルとも違う距離感で仲良くなれる場でした。

 (c) What kinds of topics did you discuss during the activity? / Tablesでどんな話をしていましたか？

When there were many participants, we split into groups based on language level.

Some tables focused on learning simple greetings and basic phrases, while others had conversations about academics and club activities at ICU.

Having whiteboards at each table was helpful, as we could quickly write down new words and check the spelling right away. 

人が多い時は、レベル別に分かれて話をしていました。

簡単な挨拶や基本のフレーズを学ぶテーブル、ICUでの学業やサークルについて話すテーブルなど、様々でした。各テーブルにホワイトボードがあり、その時使った単語の綴りをすぐに書いて、目で確認できる点が良かったです。

It’s a place to learn languages, but also a great opportunity to meet interesting students at ICU! 

すでに言語の勉強を始めている人も、そうでない人も、ぜひ気軽に足を運んでみてください！

言語を学ぶ場ですが、ICUにいるいろいろな面白い学生と出会える場でもあります！

(a) What inspired you to join Language Tables? / どういうきっかけでTablesに参加しましたか？

I like exchanging with others. I love my language. I enjoy sharing my culture and learning about other people’s cultures. The language tables felt like a natural choice. 

他の人と交流することが好きで、自分の言語や文化を共有したり、他の人の文化を学んだりするのが楽しいからです。そうした交流ができるLanguage Tablesは、自分にとってぴったりでした。 

(b) What did you enjoy about participating in Language Tables? / Tablesに参加してよかったことは？

The thing I enjoyed the most was seeing people come. The autumn term had the French table pretty much empty after all. Once the table got going though, I enjoyed being able to see everyone and think of ways to teach and learn from others how to accomplish that goal. 

一番よかったのは、参加者が増えていく様子を見られたことです。秋学期の初めはフランス語のテーブルがほとんど空席だったのですが、だんだん活気づいてきました。みんなと交流しながら、どのように教え合い、学び合うかを考えるのがとても楽しかったです。 

(c) What kinds of topics did you discuss during the activity? / Tablesでどんな話をしていましたか？

Pretty much anything, family, life, travels, culture, peculiar expressions and words in the French language, etymology, food, slang. 

家族や日常生活、旅行、文化、フランス語のユニークな表現や単語、語源、食べ物、スラングなど、さまざまな話題について話しました。 

(d) A message to future exchange students / 将来の留学生へのメッセージをお願いします。
Enjoy your exchange, odds are you’ll be thinking fondly of it for life. Travel if you can, meet people in Japan. Talk to the old and the young, the city folk and country folk, go to the mountains, go to the sea. Enjoy pop culture, enjoy history. And while you’re at it, use that one lunch break a week to talk about everything you’ve seen, and everything others have. 

留学生活を思いきり楽しんでください。きっと一生の思い出になります。時間があれば旅行をして、日本でたくさんの人と出会いましょう。年配の方や若い人、都会の人や田舎の人、さまざまな人と話をしてみてください。山にも海にも行ってみましょう。ポップカルチャーも歴史も、どちらも楽しんでください。そして、ぜひ週に1度のランチタイムを使って、自分が見たこと、他の人が見たことを語り合いましょう。
