For Parents and Family

University life commonly coincides with a developmental stage during which a young person undergoes dynamic psychological, cognitive, and social challenges. During late adolescence and young adulthood, students often face important psychological tasks such as separation from home, searching and establishing one’s own identity, choosing a career path, and developing intimate partnerships. In order to be successful, students need to learn to take care of themselves and maintain good physical and mental health as they go through these significant personal explorations.

ICU has always been intentional to offer comprehensive support to our students throughout their university life. Ideally our students would also be proactive to seek help when facing challenging times. However, sometimes our students may feel hesitant or ambivalent about the idea of seeing a counselor; for some students they may be unaware that the challenges they experience may require professional support. In such cases, ICU Counseling Center offers consultation for parents and family members to explore ways to intervene more effectively. We also provide alternative resources both on and off-campus that may suit their needs more appropriately.

Please note that if your student is currently utilizing our services at the Counseling Center, their information will be kept confidential.
