At Indigo Roots Medical Academy (IRMA), the safety of our scholars and faculty is our primary clinical priority. Because weather conditions in the Pikes Peak region vary significantly by elevation and neighborhood, we utilize a District Alignment Policy to ensure clear and consistent communication for our families.
Indigo Roots Medical Academy follows the weather-related closure and delay decisions of the local public school district in which our facility is located. * School Closures: If the local geographic district cancels classes, IRMA will also be closed.
Delayed Starts: If the local district announces a late start, IRMA will implement a 2-hour delayed start.
Early Dismissal: If weather conditions worsen during the day and the local district dismisses early, IRMA will coordinate a safe, early dismissal for all scholars.
In the event of a 2-hour delay, school operations will shift as follows:
Academic Start Time: School will begin exactly two hours after our regular start time (10:00 AM).
Nutrition: Please note that breakfast services will not be provided on delayed-start days.
Decisions are based on real-time data provided by city street supervisors, the U.S. Weather Bureau, and the Colorado Springs Street Division. These agencies monitor visibility, road traction, wind chill, and snow accumulation beginning in the early morning hours. Decisions are typically finalized and broadcasted by 5:30 AM to allow families time to make arrangements.
To stay informed, we recommend monitoring the following channels for your specific local district:
Local News: All major Colorado Springs television and radio stations.
District Websites: Check the homepage of the local geographic school district.
Notifications: We strongly encourage parents to sign up for their local district’s "Auto-Notify" or "NTouch" text and email alerts for instant mobile updates.
While the Academy relies on district-wide data to make operational decisions, you as a parent make the final decision concerning the safety of your child. If you believe road conditions in your specific neighborhood are hazardous, you may choose to keep your child at home. In these instances, the absence will be marked as Excused, and all medical coursework may be made up without academic penalty.
If school is cancelled due to weather and you require childcare services, please contact your local YMCA to inquire about their "Snow Day" care options and availability.
