Mrs. Courtney Raines

Conductor, Allegro Orchestra

     Courtney Raines is currently in her sixth year as co-director of orchestras at Highland Hills Middle School in the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated Schools. Before teaching at Highland Hills, she spent five years teaching orchestra at Fredrick Law Olmsted Academy South Middle School in the Jefferson County Public School District in Louisville, Kentucky. 

     She holds Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees from the University of Louisville. While there, she studied violin under Brittany MacWilliams. At Highland Hills, Courtney directs students in  5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade, impacting over 350 students daily and in addition assists with daily rehearsals and sectionals of the award winning Floyd Central Symphony Orchestra. She also co-directs the Floyd County Youth Symphony Mini Orchestra, coaches sectionals for youth orchestras, and helps organize and conduct the district’s summer orchestra programs. During her time at Highland Hills she has led the orchestras to multiple gold awards at ISSMA contest, and has conducted the Highland Hills Concert Orchestra at the 2020 IMEA Professional Development Conference in Fort Wayne Indiana.  In 2020 she received the honor of being named the INASTA MIddle School Orchestra Teacher of the Year! 

When she isn’t working with orchestras or groups of students, she spends much of her time teaching violin privately. Courtney Raines currently resides in New Albany IN with her husband, bassist, Eli Raines, her dog Jasmine and her cat Arya.

 Mr. Jeffery Hatfield

Conductor, Vivace Orchestra

     Jeffery Hatfield has been the Orchestra Director at North Side Middle School and Assistant Orchestra Director at Elkhart High School for the past 27 years. The North Side Middle School Orchestras have received consistent Gold Ratings “with Distinction” at the ISSMA Contest.


     Jeffery has been a presenter for the Conn-Selmer Institute and a guest clinician in the surrounding area.


     Jeffery is an active cellist and plays with the Elkhart County Symphony. Previously he was an adjunct cello instructor at Southwestern Michigan College for 2 years.


     He holds a professional membership with the American  String Teachers Association. In addition, Jeffery previously had been a member of his school’s Guiding Coalition Team and served as the Department Chairman for the North Side Music Department for the past 25 years.In addition to his public school teaching, Jeffery recently reopened his private cello studio for local students.


     In 2013, he was among the first area music educators to receive the Michiana Outstanding Music Educators award from Quinlan and Fabish Music Company.

In 2023 Jeffery was the recipient of the ASTA Junior High  School Teacher of the year award.


     Jeffery graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music Education. He received his master's from Indiana University South Bend.
